I am the Waterman: The Totalitarian Dismantlement of Reason is Here

This was a sarcastic meme by mathematician James Lindsay that exposed the idiocy and authoritarianism of the Critical Social Justice ideology ('woke-ism') and that it seeks to dismantle reason itself; the ideology is an attack on Enlightenment values and the liberty required to pursue truth. The idealogues could not criticise the meme or say its wrong, because its actually how they think. Instead the idealogues attacked the meme maker and tried to show that 2+2=5 'can be just as true, bigot' (to paraphrase) or other such ideologically driven stupidity (see his article '2 Plus 2 Never Equals 5).

Its a cult.

Its a self amplifying ideological echo chamber that goes to great lengths to insulate itself from criticism and is defined - like fascism or Marxism or other political cults that sought to dismantle reason in order to control thought - by its collectivist beliefs.

But this is not a fringe side show amongst some loons on Twitter. The ideology has taken over academia, particularly the humanities and sociology, and has spread into the hard sciences. From the universities it has spread into all our institutions, including those that are there to uphold reason and the pursuit of the truth. Lindsay's essay The Complex Relationship Between Marxism and Wokeness gives a name to the movement that is easy to understand:

'...it’s probably more accurate to describe the efforts of Critical Social Justice not as Marxist but as ethno-communist where “ethnicity” here applies to the “culture” of any particular “systemically oppressed” identity group.'

The ideas are now 'in the water'. Pretty much all hobbies, events, entertainments, organizations, interest groups, charities, businesses, national institutions and the like have been affected or infiltrated in the last few years. Most have submitted wholly or are capitulating one backward step at a time.

In light of the astonishing reaction to Lindsay's 2+2=4 meme, I'm highlighting the movement's accelerated attack on the institutions of reason. Below are recent examples from social media that evidence how this authoritarianism has gone from corrupted scholarship in academia (see Grievance Studies scandal) to activism in our institutions involved in, or devoted to, the pursuit of the truth: objective journalism, the tech sector, engineering, science, democracy - all of which it seeks to deconstruct. By way of activism and fear of loss of livelihoods - commonly now known as 'cancel culture' - the movement is increasingly limiting our liberty to pursue truth by having the institutions cow-tow to the demands and the ideas of this cult, including the ideas that seek to dismantle reason itself. Should this movement succeed and these institutions inaugurate their own collapse by submitting to the idealogues, I do not see a point of return.

The majority of people know that these ideas are plainly nonsense though. Leaders, captains of industry, managers, community spokespersons, organizers need to stand up to this, resist and speak out. The rest will follow.

Nature is one of the world's leading multidisciplinary science journals, and its method - scientific method - is the very method that is designed to eliminate bias and pursue truth. By some unstated persuasion, they decided that the pursuit of truth using their normally accepted scientific method is insufficient and must 'shut down' and 'do better'. This is submission.
